What the book delivers:

This book makes an extraordinary claim. It suggests that humans can escalate their cognition and intelligence indefinitely using a process of recursive self-improvement.

It also claims to present science-based practices and knowledge (‘psycho-technologies’) that will enable you to self-scaffold these higher capacities.

You are likely highly skeptical about these claims if you have never worked on yourself using techniques for escalating your cognitive capacities.

Have you ever used even basic techniques to achieve this?

For example:

  • Have you worked on becoming aware of the details of the thinking strategies that you use to solve problems and achieve your goals?
  • When a thinking strategy fails, do you use detailed knowledge of the strategy to identify its deficiencies and how it can be improved?
  • Do you then actively seek opportunities to test the effectiveness of your revised strategy, amending it where it fails, and so on, repeatedly enhancing your thinking abilities?
  • Do you do the same for the hierarchy of meta-thinking strategies you use to develop your thinking strategies?
  • Do you celebrate when you find a flaw in your thinking or meta-thinking strategies because it means you have encountered an opportunity to improve your cognitive capacity?

As you reflect on your answers to these questions, you will begin to see that the title of this book is not just an empty promise. You will see that even the basic approaches identified by these questions can escalate your intellectual abilities, and this book is the tool to make it happen.

This book provides detailed practices and associated knowledge that will enable you to recursively improve your cognitive capacities without limit, continually escalating your ability to achieve your goals.

Two more Chapters are made freely available:

Chapter 4 identifies how school students can massively enhance their academic performance and launch themselves on a life-long path of recursively escalating their agency, cognition, and social/emotional capacities.

Chapter 22 demonstrates how higher cognition can provide rational solutions to the big existential questions that face us all, despite radical uncertainty about whether our universe actually has any meaning or purpose.

About the author

John Stewart is an Australian-based evolutionary theorist and activist who is a member of the Evolution, Complexity, and Cognition Research Group of the Free University of Brussels.

Previously, he worked as a labor union official, manager of Australia’s north eastern fisheries, and as a senior policy advisor to the Australian Government on labor relations regulatory issues (including acting as the Government’s advocate in major arbitration test cases).

As an evolutionary theorist, his main focus has been on the trajectory of evolution. His work on the directionality of evolution and its implications for humanity has been published in numerous papers in peer-reviewed, international science journals.  These include papers on the potential for humans to enhance their psychological capacities through the future evolution of consciousness.
